If an employee has great talent but doesn't fit into your business culture, constantly questions policy and their company role or you find a need to be concerned every time the employee talks to one of your best customers, then ...
The book author calls his issue "employee attitude". I look at these same things as basic values, character, and core traits. These are not the most important elements of hiring - but one of the key areas. For example, the ability to deliver the expected outcomes is also critical along with organizational and team cultural fit.
So many "authors" try to claim their one idea or approach is the "solution" to hiring problems. The key is really implementing a series of hiring best practices that cover performance, behavior, and fit. - Barry Deutsch

The problem might be you.(The four worst hiring mistakes http://t.co/oY5QNORI #SmallBiz...)...
I find it interesting all these articles on the 2 worst, 5 bad, 7 terrible. What strikes me as odd is that many of these lists are nothing more than subjective perceptions. There is no research, quantification, actual study that identifies which are the right mistakes.
In fact, the vast majority of information consumed through blogs is nothing more than conjecture, assumptions, and biased opinions. Occassionally you come across a great blog author who does their research and bases their comments on fundamental information collected in a quantitative or scientific approach - Barry

When bringing new people on, think about the big picture. How they will fit in? How will they enhance retention?
All too often we base our assumption on whether people will "fit" on how they acted during the interview. Do you believe that the "persona" exhibited in the interview is what you'll get when they come aboard? If that's not real fit-style-personality, then how do we get at it? - Barry

Hope is not an effective strategy. The vast majority of managers and executives hang onto to staff far beyond the point of rational thinking. You then rationalize all the excuses and explanations for not taking action sooner.
